Top Tips and Hotspots for Landing Walleye on Lake Erie

Walleye anglers, your time is now! Lake Erie’s Ohio waters are buzzing with excellent walleye action. The spring season has brought steady water temperatures and active fish ready to bite.

Current Conditions:
Water temperatures hover around 50-55°F, creating ideal conditions for walleye to move closer to shore. Early morning and late evening remain the prime times for top catches, with midday bites still happening in deeper waters.

Hotspots:

Western Basin near the Sandusky area

Nearshore reefs around Marblehead

The shallows off Port Clinton

These locations have shown consistent walleye activity, especially near rocky structures and drop-offs where the fish like to gather.

Baits and Techniques:

Jigs tipped with minnows or leeches remain the go-to choice.

Crankbaits and trolling with spoons are producing great results, especially when working the 15-25 foot depth range.

Slow, steady retrieves with occasional pauses trigger aggressive strikes.

Tips:

Keep your presentation natural and avoid overworking the bait.

Use electronics to locate suspended fish; walleye often hang just off the bottom near underwater structures.

Early spring weather can be unpredictable, so prepare for quick changes and dress accordingly.

To say it's been an eventful couple of weeks is an understatement!! Buy a boat they said, it will be fun they said... 🤣🤣🤣
We are officially on the water with the big boat and the center console will be finished up this weekend and ready for action. It got a new powerhead... again... 🤣🤣 Bronson Gundlach sure does it good when he does it! 😂😂 All joking aside, we lost cylinder 6 which is typical in these motors. I had one last powerhead to use that should get us thru the majority if not all of this season which will allow me to finish the third boat and get it fishing. Once that happens, the center console will come off the water for a new Transom, new 4 stroke and bottom paint. Yes David Kraut, I'm going to paint the bottom, I promise!
It's been a long winter and Bronson and myself are looking forward to a fun filled summer fishing with everyone! Let's get out there and make a memory and put some meat in your freezer!
Call, text or message here if you want to discuss your next lake Erie adventure!
